One Life: What's it all about?
The Christianity Explored course gives you time and space to think through who Jesus is and why it matters. So join us for the 7-week course as we explore Christianity and think through what life's all about in your own way.
Who attends?
A huge variety of people, with different experiences and backgrounds, and different views and beliefs, come on the Christianity Explored course. CE is primarily for anyone who wants to investigate Christianity informally with a group of other people. Whether you have previous experience of Church, Christians and the Bible, or none at all, this course is for you. Everyone is welcome.
What should I expect each week?
You won't be asked to pray, sing or read aloud, and you can ask any questions you like. Or, if you prefer, you can just come along and listen. Each week on the course, you watch a DVD or listen to a short talk. We'll explore three questions together:
- Who is Jesus?
- Why did Jesus come?
- What does it mean for us?
Tell me about the book of Mark
The book of Mark is 16 chapters long, and most people take around an hour to read it; though of course (as with all books) you can read it in chunks.
Mark wrote his Gospel probably around the mid sixties AD—about 30 years after the events he’s describing. It’s clear from the details he includes that his writing is based on eyewitness accounts. According to the earliest sources, Mark was writing down the eyewitness account of Peter, Jesus’ closest friend.
Mark’s Gospel splits roughly into two halves, and answers three important questions:
- Chapters 1-8: “Who is Jesus?”
- Chapters 9-16: “Why did Jesus come? How should we respond?”
As you read through, it’s worth asking yourself how what you've just read answers one of those questions.
